Origins
The story of Futuresleep began in 1983, when Angelo Spanos, Theodoros Giannopoulos, and Loui Stathopoulos set up a small workshop in Huntingdale, Victoria. From that humble space, they began a tradition of handcrafting high-quality mattresses under the name Select-O-Pedic—unknowingly laying the foundation for what would become a transformative force in Australia's mattress manufacturing industry.
Select-O-Pedic introduced a revolutionary promise at a time when standard industry delivery took up to 14 days: mattresses built to last and delivered within 24 hours. It was an ambitious vision that many thought impossible—but it worked. Their commitment to quality and service quickly gained traction in the market.
A pivotal moment came through a chance encounter with a national mattress buyer, which led to an introduction to the Captain Snooze retail group. This connection sparked the creation of a bespoke mattress, the Captain’s Mate, developed exclusively for the retailer. The product’s success was immediate and profound—cementing Select-O-Pedic's reputation and setting the stage for ongoing innovation in mattress design, driven by a simple but powerful goal: to provide better sleep for a better life.

Over the years, the company expanded steadily, establishing manufacturing facilities in every major city across Australia. In 2015, following a strategic acquisition and continued growth across the industry, the company was rebranded as Futuresleep—a unifying name that brought together all manufacturing entities under one umbrella, while highlighting the company’s forward-looking commitment to sleep innovation.
Today, Futuresleep, proudly Australian made and owned, continues to lead the way in mattress design and manufacturing, combining tradition, technology, and a passion for helping Australians get the sleep they deserve. Proudly supporting over three hundred staff members across the country, Futuresleep remains committed to Australian craftsmanship, local jobs, and a legacy built on better sleep.
